Educator and Problem Solver
I have developed and delivered science and technology curricula for children, the elderly, and emerging-English learners in the traditional classroom and during crisis management and IT engagements for international corporate, government, and educational clients.
I have also applied the skills I teach.
Whether I am designing a plague locust management system for Primary Industries in New South Wales AU, assisting the New Zealand Ministry of Health with emergency management and training in Christchurch during the 2011 earthquake, designing a security system for the Bank of South Pacific in Papua New Guinea and E-trade components for Wells Fargo Bank in the USA, or traveling to India to train WIPRO IT professionals in methods and tools I implemented for diagnosing software bottlenecks, I have learned to utilize international best practice methodologies to solve problems.
Educational challenges are no different. If we agree on an outcome, then we should apply international evidence-based best-practice standards that align with the desired result. I have been creating solutions as a consultant and educator since 1993.

It has been important for me to teach the course using international learner-centered best practice pedagogy while still ensuring top marks on the Cambridge International high-stakes exams in IGCSE (Grade 10) and AS/A-Level (Grade 12). I have documented my success in these endeavors through my action-based research culminating in a master's thesis (click here for a PDF version).

Emergency Management Services Leader/Senior Consultant - Critchlow Ltd. - Wellington, New Zealand
February 2011 - August 2014
As Emergency Management Services Leader I reported directly to the CEO Jos Kunnen. Our EM team provided emergency management solution consulting, development, training, and support for a wide range of private and public clients throughout Australasia.
My focus was on planning and managing all the Critchlow Emergency Management (EM) services, projects, and development - proactive and planned support, and maintaining application availability and effectiveness during day-to-day usage and activation/disaster scenarios of our crisis management system offerings.
I was charged with defining and aligning internal processes with standard best practices where I created numerous internal process documents with a focus on SDLC (Service Delivery Life Cycle) best practices according to ISO 9001 quality management process standards.
I played key roles in the creation of RFI/RFPs, business case and proposal writing, product demonstrations, pricing, and purchasing, software support, service delivery, and the creation of training, technical, process, sales, and marketing materials.
As a senior consultant, I managed and assisted in-house and contractor developers, and test consultants on several development projects. I participated in every aspect of the lifecycle such as sales, business analyses, design, development, testing, documentation, training, and ongoing support while continuing to design and improve Critchlow project deployment processes and documentation.
I engaged in hands-on .Net application development and troubleshooting of complex system and network architecture performance issues for clients.
I worked closely with customers to design systems to meet their needs through intensive onsite business analyses engagements culminating in the sale, development, testing, networking, configuration, training, and operational support of the system.
My work resulted in complex information technology systems still actively utilized today for managing plague locust infestations, day to day policing, and general emergency and large event management for such Australasian private and government agencies as Auckland City Council, New Zealand Ministry of Health, Maritime New Zealand, Air New Zealand, NSW Department of Primary Industries, Queensland, WA, SA, NT Police, Western Australia Department of Fire and Emergency Services, Bank of South Pacific-Papua New Guinea and various American agencies from time to time that utilized similar systems developed by our vendor ESI/Juvare.
I have been a regular onsite consultant and provided remote assistance in customer emergency activations, training, and exercises and provided support and direct assistance with the Christchurch Earthquake, Rugby World Cup, CHOGM (Commonwealth Heads of Government Conference), and a large number of bush fires, maritime and weather-related events throughout Australia, and New Zealand.
My systems managed and presented input, filtering, and reporting of SOP data for Incident Action Plans, Incident Declaration Forms, Fire Behavior, Operations Summaries, Organizational Structures, Division and Sector Plans, Medical Plans, ICC Communications Plans, Weather, GIS-enabled mapping, Logistics, Situation Reports, Situation Analyses, Strategic Analyses, Catering, Roads and other organization-specific administration such as role-based workflow and approval processes often linking each component to 3rd party systems through custom API development.
I also played key roles in our sales engagements and information sharing emergency management conferences throughout Australasia and the United States in this role.
Upon my decision to move to Laos with my family I provided general technical consulting and advice to junior consultants and assisting new team leaders and practice leaders on continuing to develop internal processes during the handover to the new Services Leader and Practice Leader ensuring a smooth transition. I take great pride in my achievements working on behalf of Critchlow Ltd. as our systems mitigated the impacts of large disasters and played a part in saving human lives.
